Work addicts, better known as workaholics, are people who seem to be constantly either at work or involved in some aspect of the work they do for a living. Similar to the word ‘addiction’, the term ‘workaholic’ gets thrown around rather lightly, attached to anyone who someone perceives as working too much.
Work addiction does not meet the clinical definition for addiction, it has no established definition, and it is not recognized as an addiction by groups such as the American Psychiatric Association. Yet this should not be taken to mean that the behavior does not share similarities with other related compulsive or impulse-control disorders; anecdotal evidence suggests just the contrary, in fact.
