In this Article:
Teenagers are exposed to all the same drugs that adults use, but for a variety of reasons they are at a far greater risk to try, abuse and become addicted to them. Teens are far more likely to believe many drugs are safe, more likely to succumb to peer pressure or stress, and less likely to note their own addiction behaviors developing.
President Bush’s first radio address of March 2008 directly addressed the issue, releasing a 79 page report entitled the National Drug Control Strategy that, if the statistics are to believed, indicates that during the President’s years in office the abuse of every imaginable drug by teens, from cigarettes to heroin to LSD, has dropped significantly: 24% since 2001, across the board.
Surely any number of parents and addiction specialists would disagree.
In this piece we’ll look at some telltale causes, signs and symptoms of teen drug abuse and addiction, the many dangers, as well as some specific drugs that teens are using and abusing, such as prescription drugs and club drugs.
