Finding something to keep
Finding something to keep your mind off it is a good idea--if you can replace your smoking with a healthy habit like exercise, that would be ideal. Since your wife really wants you to quit for good, try enlisting her help. Maybe you can talk to her about the stress you're feeling or she can help distract you. If you've been smoking for 10 years, it's going to be hard to quit overnight but it's doable. It's pretty normal to feel overwhelmed when you quit something that has been such a part of your life and that is both physically and mentally addicting, so don't worry that you're going crazy! It's a difficult time but you'll get through it and be okay.
If you think it might help, you can try a nicotine replacement therapy to take the edge off the physical withdrawal from cigarettes. If you're really struggling mentally, you might consider seeing a counselor.
