I am a single mom for about 2 years now after a divorce. I have pretty much an absentee husband and am on my own. I feel like I am getting more and more dependent on percocet, vicodin and valium to deal with the stress in my life. I have a 3 year old child and am trying to figure out what to do. I can't afford to leave work and go into rehab. What else can I do?
Whenever I read about a celebrity entering some fancy rehab program, I can't help but feel a little irritated by their ability to pack up and leave their everyday life. Most of us can't afford to leave work and our children, let alone pay for the cost of rehab.
Fortunately, there are outpatient options for drug rehab that can help. Your local hospitals may offer substance abuse treatment or sponsor support groups. You can also check with local churches. A psychiatrist or other therapist can help you manage your stress and address any problems with addiction. They can also help you find a support group, which can be a really great free way to begin addressing a substance abuse problem. Going into rehab definitely isn't your only option--a lot of people kick an addiction without an inpatient program.
