I've heard before that addiction can be inherited. Say, if your father was an alcoholic then you're at greater risk to be one. Does anyone know anything about that? I grew up in a foster home with a wonderful family but my real mother was an alcoholic. My foster family got me when I was 11 months old and they told me that I screamed all the time, the most horrible scream! My foster mom thought that my real mom drank while she was pregnant with me and that I was an alcohol baby going through withdrawals!! Now I can't get off my rx meds!! Also my real brother told me that he has addictive behaviors and he too was abusing rx meds at one time? It seems weird, so I was thinking that maybe it's true that we got this from our mom??? Anyone have any thoughts?

I have read that a lot of experts in the addiction field believe that a addiction can consist of many different parts.
Environment
Physical, Biochemical
Psychosocial
Genetic
So I am not sure what the right answer is but as far as I have read that there are genetic dispositions to falling into an addiction. My 2 cents.
Thanks for your 2 cents Dave!! :) I was starting to think I was alone on this forum! LOL!
