Due to a birth defect I have a very weak ACL. I have torn it three times in the last three years. Due to this, I have been on and off pain meds pretty much the last three years. I have become addicted to Loratabs in the process. I really want to get off the pills. I want to say something to my doctor but I am having another surgery in just a few weeks. The ACL surgeries are extremely painful to recover from so I don't want to be flagged addict in my charts because I'm afraid that a doctor won't give me meds to control the pain when I need it. I would like to hear from other people who have talked to their doctors about their addiction and how it works taking pain meds you actually need when the time rolls around.

Unfortunately this is very common. An injury leads to pain meds leads to addiction. I know you are afraid to tell your doctor but you really should. They will still have to give you something to control the pain but might find a better regiment and have some better options.
I agree. You should tell your doctor. If your doctor is for real then it shouldn't matter.
Definitely trust your doctor. It is very understandable what happened.
