Alcoholic and Bipolar

Hi,

I'm Alan B from the UK. I am a recovering alcoholic and will (by the grace of God) have one year sobriety on August 5th. I have also suffered from Bipolar Disorder for many years (first hospitalised in 1981) and I am struggling not to use the drink to iron out the ups and downs in my frequent mood swings. I take medication for my illness (Lithium and Riperidone). I was wondering if anybody else in this forum had a similar dual problem and would like to share about it ?

Regards

I totally relate, after a nasty relapse, This time I have chosen to seek professional help also I try just doing the program I struggle with bad mood swings , Ive chosen to seek out the extra help this time, God knows I don't think I could make it back from another relapse and totally realize I need the professional help, was clinically diagnosed with manic depression. , There has been times that my feelings were so over whelming I felt I had know choice but drink, It's a horrible place to be , I have heard of several people like myself that have both and do go to the doctor I'm glad I'm going back and not letting pride get in the way,I want to totally recover. you are not alone.
