hello, all.
I have been over drinking white wine daily for several years now. Despite this, I'm in excellent health and have noticed that when I go without alchol for more than a day, my heart races, I'm nauseaus and well...I think I'm addicted and I'm afraid I'll have a seizure or something! What can I take, eat, drink, etc. to alleviate withdrawals. I AM DONE WITH DRINKING! Please reply soon! Thank you. |

Hello.
The withdrawals you are feeling are a result of a dependence that your body has come to have with alcohol. Just like when a smoker stops for a day or a coffee drink stops for a day. There is really no difference. The reason I always kept drinking and using drugs is because not that I needed the high but because I could not stand how I felt in the withdrawal period. Like a really bad hangover that will not go away. There are really a few things you can do but as always the final advice should come from a doctor. First of all...do you think you can stop on your own? Do you think you can get past the withdrawals? There are many support groups that help you deal with the stress and pain this causes. If you can't stop, there are FDA approved medications for alcoholism. Once again...you need to consult with a doctor for this. good nutrition is also important during the recovery process. There is a good article on it on this site that I saw. Does this help? |

| Support groups will really make a difference. I know that recovery is not easy and every little bit will help. |

I too have been too well acquainted with white wine (the double size each night) excessively for the last few years. I'd noticed the racing heart, sweaty pits, anxiety usually mid-day or sometimes I couldn't sleep because of it. I'd been on a heavy binge and decided I was done. I had such atrocious withdraw I went to the doctor. Not just my hands were shaking, my whole body was in a mass tremor. Sweating. The whole bit. Oh, and night terrors - those are the worst. The doctor gave me Ativan for the symptoms and Campral to help stop the cravings. It worked well until Thanksgiving.
It went from 4 day weekend to every night. I don't think there's been a night since then I haven't blacked out or passed out. I'd started drinking in the afternoons because it was the only thing that stopped it. I'd also acquired a new symptom - I can't eat unless I've had alcohol or my food comes back up violently. This wasnt easy to pull off at Christmas dinner.
Well, tonight I was faced with going out and buying one or not. I didn't. It's almost 5am and I'm afraid to sleep (and probably not able) because not only is my heart beating irregularly/rapidly/hard but I have chest pain and weird pain in my throat area. I have 5 of the 6 symptoms of a heart attack and the sites I've read say a large percentage of people dismiss these and finally arrive at the ER and find they are having a heart attack. I've been out of the Ativan which did help and didn't want to quit tonight without it. I shouldn't have because it's terrifying.
If you've been as frequent a user, or close, you'll probably see your symptoms advance if you've seen some now. I'd never had it this bad. I'd recommend you call a doctor. I hated having to admit to him and nurses why I was really there (I'd called in for a sinus infection and show up an addict) but I'd gladly do it again to relieve this withdraw I'm in. |

| Hi all. My first time here. I was an alcoholic for 10 years before getting sober back in April of last year. I have to say it is one of the most difficult things I have had to do but have not looked back since. |
