Why men are more prone to gaming addiction?

Video games have fascinated kids and adults alike for long. The thrill of playing animated characters and dealing with larger than life situations gives a kick to all video game lovers. However, sometimes this love for video games can turn into an obsession. For instance, there have been many cases of boys and men having landed in hospitals thanks to their gaming addiction! What’s to be noted here is that most cases of gaming addiction have been reported among males. So, what is it about men that makes them more prone to gaming addiction?

A recent psychological study conducted by a team of researchers at the Stanford University’s School of Medicine has thrown up some answers. According to this study Men’s brains are more intensively stimulated by the rewards of video gaming than women’s are, in turn increasing their risk of addiction. A sample group consisting of both men and women were made to play video games and it was observed that men activated the regions of their brain linked to rewards and addiction more than women during the course of the game. It has also been suggested that since most video games involve territorial conquests and aggression, therefore men are more likely to get addicted to them.
