Despite crisis cigarette business still flies high

A recent report from the Associated Press stated that tobacco earnings, Philip Morris International’s 2008 profits are up 20 percent and Reynolds American raised its full-year forecast despite decrease in sales volume. The report is quite surprising since many economic experts expect that sales of the cigarette business will fall down in the wake of the global economic crisis. Many are saying that in times when the economy is not good people addicted to smoking will be compelled to kick their habit to save money.

However, the result is different from what is expected; it looks like the demand for cigarettes is still very much high despite the crisis.

The report also pointed out that the efforts of the government in various parts of the globe to raise the taxes on cigarettes to curb smoking especially among the kids are not yielding the positive result it is supposed to get.

The AP news item shows that many people in this planet had refused to stop smoking despite knowing the health risk offered by the nicotine composition in cigarettes. The will power of those addicted to smoking is not quite strong to force them to stop such costly form of habit. Time will come that the demand for smoking will fall down but the fact remains many smokers’ refuses to quit the habit despite many factors telling them to stop it. I think this news item should be used as driving force for the government and the family of those persons addicted to smoking to exert more efforts to kick this harmful habit.

The family must continue to remind their love ones hooked on smoking to stop the habit to protect their health and save money these hard times.

The government for its part must continue to promote programs that aim to eradicate smoking in their country. Persons addicted to smoking for their part must exert more effort to kick the habit for the sake of having a healthy life and do more bonding moments with their family.

Real data tells us that too much smoking causes cancer and certain death to anyone who is addicted to the habit.

This concrete piece of evidence that smoking is bad for the health should be used as motivation for smoking addicts to stop the habit now.
