The Harmful Effects of Hydrocodone Addiction

Hydrocodone is an anti cough agent. It is also prescribed as an analgesic for pain control. In the year 2006, 130 million prescriptions were written for the drug in the U.S.

The drug can be addictive. Patients experience withdrawal within 6-12 hours. Symptoms of addiction are dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and constipation. Withdrawal symptoms include irritability, nausea, muscle pain, runny nose, chills, fever and depression. The drug is easy to obtain. Most pharmacies stock hydrocodone as a cough remedy. Addicts find it difficult to get rid of the addiction because of easy access to the drug. Patients with underlying psychiatric problems like depression turn to the medication because it gives them a pleasantly drowsy feeling. Both psychiatric and medical treatment is required to cure the addiction. Treatment is usually done by cognitive behavioral therapy, psychiatric therapy, detoxification of the body so that all traces of hydrocodone is removed and medication.

iv been off hydro for three

iv been off hydro for three days now worst three days of my life.

I have been on hydrocodone

I have been on hydrocodone for about five to six months. I got on it through a dentist. I was having severe teeth pain and instead of fixing the problem this dentist kept feeding me Lortabs like they were candie. Now I am hooked and don't know what to do. I go about ten or more hours without taking the crap and I get terrible aches in my legs and back. I take 7.5mg's of hydrocodone about twice a day and one 5mg once a day at the most! Usually it's just two 5mg tabs a day with one 7.5mg tab. In essence I take it three times a day sometimes only twice a day. I'm wanting to ween but am finding it hard and don't know who to turn to what doctor to go to about getting help because where I live doctors treat drug addicts like they are the scum of the earth even if it's not their fault they got hooked! Most doctors down here don't seem to want to help, won't even discuss weening me and definitely won't give me any to even try to ween! I live in the deep south for what that's worth. In any case I'm stuck in a flux that I don't know how to get out of. I don't have any health insurance and can NOT afford to go to a rehabilitation clinic or even a detox as they cost thousands of dollars that I simply just don't have. Any advice would be helpful.
