From pain relievers to more pain

Submitted by Joan on Fri 08/21/2009 - 10:11

Physicians provided pain relievers and the relief it provide may have addictive side effects. Doctors tend to be vigilant and cautious in prescribing these pain relievers. However, using the drugs as prescribed is all up to the patient.

Studies have shown the correlation between pain reliever addiction and other substance abuse. Those who are addicted to pain relievers are most like to use other addictive substances. The longer they are hooked into it, the more is the craving.

We have seen how athletes rise and fall due to these types of drug dependencies. In ordinary people’s lives, there are countless families and companies that are suffering the effect of a member’s addiction. Substance abuse often causes the introduction of violence into the home and offices.

Experts have advised that palliative medications, as much as possible, should be supervised and monitor by a member of the household. Involving somebody else in one’s way to recovery from pain may very well help in avoiding substance abuse. Otherwise, what may start as a pain reliever may end up creating more pain.
