Eminem Ditches Alcohol to Combat Prescription Drug Addiction

Eminem Ditches Alcohol to Combat Prescription Drug Addiction
The Rapper Eminem has been fairly open about his drug addiction problem over the last few years. After knee surgery a few years ago, painkillers became his drug of choice, sometimes taking 20 pills a day. He entered into rehab, relapsed on methadone pills, and nearly killed himself, recovered, then relapsed again.
What’s interesting this time about his recovery this time is that he is giving up alcohol as well. He recognized that even one drink can impair his judgment and lead him right back to where he’s been. If alcohol isn’t your addiction of choice, you may want to consider if abstaining from alcohol might increase your odds of getting and staying healthy.
How to Create a Safe, Alcohol-Free Environment
Remove all alcohol from your house. Ask for the support of partners or others in the home.
If necessary, do not attend social functions early on if you feel they will provide too much temptation.
• Stay away from friends or family members with whom you normally drink.
• Enroll in evening classes, join a volunteer group, or partake in other activities that will keep you busy.
• Many people say the “witching hours” between 5 and 8 p.m. to be the most difficult. If that is the case for you, try and change your schedule, at least early on, so you are preoccupied during those hours.
• Research anti-craving medications
