Marijuana Addiction is a Progressive Disease

Habitual use of marijuana will wreak havoc on the brain. Since its most potent component, THC, targets the brain, it interferes with the normal chemical equilibrium of the brain affecting pleasure centers and regulatory systems. There will be impairment in the memory and the ability to adapt to changes. Marijuana users often exhibit depression which creates the need to use more to fill up the urge.

Marijuana use and eventually abuse is a very vicious cycle. Users are unwittingly trapped into a web of depression and obsession leading to a compulsive uncontrollable craving for marijuana. They are effectively entrapped in a web where they want to be free of but can’t and oftentimes won’t.

It is a progressive disease. Aside from the effects on the brain functions, there will be breathing difficulties and handicapped physical abilities. It speeds up the rate of breathing and body circulation especially the pumping of the heart and blood pressure. There will also be higher risks of succumbing to lung cancer, stroke, and heart attacks.
