Heroin: A deadly high

Heroin addiction has afflicted many people of different ages. The cost of this tar-like substance derived from morphine has become lower and lower that more people have gotten access to it. Those who have tried it have experienced the morphine’s trigger effect on the brain’s pleasure spots. This is why they say that it feels like heaven or that it drives all their problems away. It initially gives them a euphoric rush that makes them feel content. It also makes the user feel drowsy and heavy. While in that state of high, the user’s speech may also be hard to understand. This can be followed by a dry mouth, vomiting, and constipation.

Habitual use of heroin can develop heart problems such as bradycardia and respiratory problems like hypoventilation. The user may also get liver disease, kidney problems, and pneumonia. Withdrawal effects are instant, happening soon after the last use. These effects include musculoskeletal pain, insomnia, diarrhea and vomiting. Withdrawal can be fatal for some who use the substance heavily.
