Except when it’s between a person and their drugs. In recent weeks, I’ve been once again reading about tell-all tales of another C-List celebrity who is coming clean about coming clean. (I know, I know).
Tod Bridges, of ‘70s sitcom fame went on a 20 year bender that landed him in rehab strapped down in a diaper. Speaking recently about his addiction, he said, “A lot of people don’t feel like they have a problem and that’s one of the biggest problems,” said Bridges. “One of the biggest things with Corey Haim was [that he] thought that he was just taking prescription medication, which if you take it according to what the doctor tells you, you’re going to be okay. But if you take it the way an addict is going to take it - take a bunch of them and don’t listen to what the prescription bottle says - that’s what happened.”
Bridges’ co-star, Dana Plato who played Kimberly on the show, also battled with prescription drugs and used them to end her life in 1999.
UFC fighter James Irvin is getting real about his recovery, too in preparation for his first fight tonight after a two year hiatus.
“I needed to get caught. I needed to get in trouble for it and wake me up and get off of those things. I never even heard the word withdrawal. I didn't know what withdrawals were. I didn't know what was going on. I didn't know to speak to a doctor about it. I took it the wrong way, kind of the cowardly path. I just kept on using the prescription drugs, but it's a tough push-pull kind of thing in my line of sport... Since then, since I've had that suspension, I've been drug free, it's been the happiest time of my life. I can honestly say that. A lot of people throw that around, but I can tell you with my family, with my wife, my training. I've found a new love in training again, it's something that I had lost while using prescription drugs and I just feel like a new person."
