Understanding Addictions: Part 3

When you are trying to understand exactly what can cause an addiction, it is often hard to believe that it could be something as simple as a person lacking just a little bit of self-esteem. Finding something that makes them fit in is their first decision. Often times, when the person finds something that makes them fit in, they intend on quitting it once they feel they no longer need it. Now while you would assume that would not be harmful in any kind of way, it is in fact, very harmful for the person to have this frame of mind. When a person starts on what can be considered their “future” addiction, they may become too dependent upon this particular thing. In the end, they may feel that, instead of quitting it, they need to continue on to keep fitting in. This is what is known as the “environmental” addiction.
