Positive affirmations to deal with addictions

Dealing with an addiction is a complex process; it requires a holistic treatment involving the body and the mind. Usually a person persists with addictive behavior because he/she starts feeling that either they do not have the power to overcome their addiction or believe that their live depends on the substance they are addicted to. Positive affirmations can help a person overcome these limiting beliefs.

Positive affirmations work by the simple logic that whatever one hears repeatedly becomes his/her belief. For instance if a child has always been told that he/she is ugly then that is what he/she will grow up to believe.

The following positive affirmations can help alter addictive behavior:

• “I love and accept myself” (This will help a person overcome feelings of self-loathing, generally associated with addictions)

• “I have the power to transform my life” (This will help in building the self-belief needed to overcome an addiction)

• “I now release all my negative thought patterns” (This affirmation will help a person overcome their limiting or negative beliefs and patterns which are responsible for pushing them in the abyss of addiction)

• “I trust the process of life to bring the best to me” (This will help an addict overcome their intrinsic fear and anxiety, which makes them look for an escape route)

It is important to practice affirmations regularly. For people trying to battle an addiction, it would be a good idea to repeat these affirmations to themselves several hundred times throughout the day.
