Addicts are Persons in Pain

Addiction is not an ambition.

A person is haplessly sucked up into the vicious cycle of addiction because of emotional and physical problems or trauma which is being experienced. Faced with these problems, the person struggles to find solutions and answers. Emotional and physical pains can range from innocent causes as introversion or as dreadful as living in an environment perceived by the person to be hostile and frightening. It can also be the travails of wanting to belong or fit in, or it may be rooted in a chronic suffering of a painful physical condition.

From the individual’s point of view, the problem is so serious and he is suffering it alone with no relief in sight. Many of us may have felt these feelings of despair and turmoil one time or another but we differ in the way that we cope with the seemingly dire situation. Many may have come out unscathed but there are some who are unable to swim through the muck and turned to drugs for relief.
