Addiction is a three-edged dagger

Three-edged daggers are usually found in old slaughter houses. These are used to inflect much destruction to the animal that is being slaughtered. It can immediately pierce thru the animal’s skin leaving very little chances to missing the execution.

We can liken addiction to three-edged daggers; it leaves very little chances of missing the object. It affects the totality of the person. In most cases, we see addiction as physical problem. However, it also affects the psycho-social & the financial life of the individual.

The effect on physical aspect is the most visible part of addiction. We can see the person body drops from a good healthy one to a very an unwell one. We can see the addict with shaking hands, sweating and irritable. In the worst case scenario, we see them die of over-dose or of damaged organs or of cancer.

Addiction has psycho-social effects. Aside from the fact that they are irritable, addicts tend to demand so much attention from people who are close to them. When they fail to get the attention they needed they tend to be withdrawn. In most cases, they succumb to more of what they are addicted with to ease the psychological pain.

Finally, addiction can drain the person and his/her family’s financial resources. Large amount are spent on what they are addicted to. In some instances, they may even resort to stealing and robbery. Jobs are even lost.

Dealing with the three-edge dagger then would require a holistic approach.
