Caffeine addiction: One too many cups

Have you ever heard anyone say that he is a coffee addict? It seems like a joke that friends can share. But in truth, there are real caffeine addicts – those who can’t survive the day without drinking several cups of coffee or finishing off a liter of cola.

Caffeine is said to have pretty much the same effects as alcohol, cocaine, and methamphetamine. It is intoxicating. It can affect a person’s mind, make him anxious and have fever and hyperventilation. The addict may also find it difficult to sleep or experience a long night of restless sleep. Some who have gone too far in their addiction have also tried caffeine pills. This could lead to death when the heart muscles malfunction. Most people do not consider caffeine as having effects as negative and as dangerous as other addicting substances. It is also socially acceptable because coffee and cola are everyday beverages. However, all of us should take care not to drink too much of these or it may lead to a fatal addiction.
