Are You Living with an Alcoholic?

I had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Neill Neill (yes, it is his real name) recently and found him to be a fascinating person and psychologist. His own addictions, and that of his family members, have led him on an interesting, and sometimes heart-breaking life path.

As he explains:
“I have been poor enough to know what hunger is, and I have been financially successful.
I graduated high school, reading at grade 4 level, but went on to become a writer.
I have known the heartbreak of marriage failure, and fulfillment of being in a long-term successful marriage.
I was an alcoholic, and now I write about and deliver solutions.
I have seen three of my adult children die of causes related to their addictions, and yet I see new hope in my grandchildren and great grandchildren.”

He is also the author of Living with a Functioning Alcoholic – A Woman’s Survival Guide. Everything he writes is seasoned with the personal experience of damaging his own marriage an alcoholic, and later suffering the feelings of helplessness and the pain of living with drug- and alcohol-addicted adult children. The book offers practical information that you can use now. Some of the recommendations are what to do for him. But there is also much more about you and your own self care as you work towards getting your life back.
