Xanax Ingredients

The active Xanax ingredients in the anti-anxiety medication is alprazolam.

RXList.com describes alprazolam as "a triazolo analog of the 1,4 benzodiazepine class of central nervous system-active compounds."

Depending on the dosage your doctor prescribes, a Xanax tablet contains 0.25, 0.5, one or two mg of alprazolam.

The inactive Xanax ingredients are cellulose, corn starch, docusate sodium, lactose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide and sodium benzoate.

In addition, the 0.5 mg tablet contains FD&C Yellow No. 6 and the one mg tablet contains FD&C Blue No. 2.

Some of these inactive Xanax ingredients could cause allergic reactions in some people. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about that.
